Newtown Parent Connection started as a grassroots organization so that parents could network with one another to discuss the drug issues we were facing in our town. We believe that knowledge is power, and by becoming better informed, we can begin to take the steps necessary to prevent or treat the problem. The mission of the Newtown Parent Connection is to educate and empower the community in the prevention of substance abuse and to embrace families in crisis. We work with individuals and families to build resiliency and strengthen the connection amongst family members. Strong families help create strong communities. We work in conjunction with town agencies, the schools, religious communities, and police departments, to enlighten our community in order to prevent the use of drugs and alcohol amongst our youth. We offer weekly support groups in Newtown and Fairfield for those who have questions or concerns about their child or loved ones possible or confirmed involvement with substances. We offer a monthly bereavement group for those who have lost a child or loved one due to substance abuse or catastrophic circumstances. We offer a weekly Voices of Hope support group for middle school and high school students who care about someone who uses alcohol and/or drugs where they can safely share their experience and strength. Students will build leadership skills that they can use to help others.
